Program held in Silver Spring, designed to advance entrepreneurial opportunity and financial acumen for single mothers

January 23, 2019 - Walker's Legacy Foundation presents Moms Who Enterprise, sponsored by HSBC Bank USA, N.A., (HSBC), part of HSBC Group, one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organizations. The six-week program is designed to develop financial and entrepreneurship skills for women in Montgomery County, MD between the ages of 18 to 30, pregnant or parenting, and currently looking to take their businesses to the next level. The Silver Spring programming marks the fifth city for the organization, which has also conducted cohorts in Detroit, Newark, Baltimore and the District of Columbia.

The unique program provides participants with financial and business knowledge through an accelerated six-week program, original curriculum, a mobile e-learning app, and free childcare.

“Moms Who Enterprise seeks women with dynamic ideas and talents that have the potential to flourish as a business, yet who also may lack the resources, networks, and connections to formalize their enterprises,” stated Natalie Madeira Cofield, Founder & CEO, Walker’s Legacy Foundation.

Research from the has shown that 39-percent of the more than 10 million low-income working families with children are headed by single working mothers.

“Financial literacy is a fundamental part of our business,” said Scott Willis, Senior Regional Community Development Manager, HSBC Bank. “We firmly believe that if the community thrives, we thrive. By sponsoring this unique program and addressing the issues of financial education and community development, we’re working to create a better future for us all.”

Applications for the program will be accepted through Friday, February 15, 2019. The program, which will occur on Saturdays at 11:30AM, will begin on March 16, 2019, and will culminate with a graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 11, 2019, in advance of Mother’s Day.  All programming will be held at I/O Spaces 8222 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
